Before you sail

We recommend flying in the day before the cruise begins.

  • Arrive at the port 2–3 hours before departure.
  • When booking an airport–port transfer, allow at least 5 hours between landing and the scheduled sailing.

Frequently asked questions

By the list of ports, not by the name. If Marseille, Genoa or Civitavecchia appear, you are heading east and will see three countries. If Palma, Ibiza and Menorca keep recurring, it is an island loop. Commercial names can mislead — two quite different cruises may share one.

For most of the year, yes, and that is one reason Barcelona suits a Polish passenger better than the other Spanish ports. The schedule does shift by season, so we check it against your specific sailing dates before you confirm the booking.

We advise flying in a day early and staying the night in the city. Boarding closes two to three hours before departure and the ship will not wait for a delayed flight. A night before the cruise costs less than a cruise you miss. The five-hour figure that circulates around cruises means something else: it belongs to a transfer booked through the line and says nothing about when you report at the quay.

Yes, and it is among the better choices to start with. The itineraries are short, the crossings overnight and calm, and the distances between ports small. If you do not know how you will take several days at sea, three or four nights test it more cheaply than a week.

In the choice of dates and the length of the routes. Barcelona has the most of both in our offer, running island loops as well as week-long sailings east. Valencia offers mainly short cruises of three or four nights, though the run in from the airport is shorter. If your leave dates are fixed, start with Barcelona — the odds of something fitting them are better.

Four nights cover Palma and Ibiza; seven let you add Menorca and a mainland port. Less than three nights is a test of the sea rather than sightseeing: boarding and disembarkation eat the first and last days, leaving two full ones.

The currency of the contract is either the euro or the US dollar, and the booking itself decides which. Payment goes by transfer, in euros or in zloty, to the details we set out in the document. With a payment link the settlement runs in zloty only. Prices on the site are shown in zloty at the day’s rate.

Your contract is with us, so a complaint comes to us rather than to an operator abroad. We hold an insurance guarantee against the organiser becoming insolvent. Most matters — a cabin change, a question about paperwork, a problem during the sailing — are settled by telephone in Polish during office hours.

Still have a question?

We'll help you choose a cruise and answer your questions.

Spain offers two different cruises, though they look alike on the list.

The first starts in Barcelona and heads east, along Provence and Liguria, with Italy in the second half of the week. The second circles the Balearics: Palma, Ibiza, Menorca, sometimes Valencia at the end. One shows you three countries, the other one sea and four islands.

The number of sailings on offer sits above the list and moves with the operators’ inventory; below we explain how to tell which of the two you are looking at.

Where Spanish sailings start

Barcelona is the main embarkation port of the western basin and the usual start for Spanish itineraries. The airport is close to the terminal, and flights from Warsaw and Kraków are direct for most of the year.

Valencia appears less often and mainly as a port of call, though it does start short three- and four-night sailings. The run in from the airport is shorter than in Barcelona, but the choice of dates is narrower.

Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza are almost always calls rather than embarkation ports. If a description shows Palma as the first point, check whether it is the start of the cruise or the first call after leaving the mainland — your air ticket depends on the answer.

In Barcelona the terminals are strung along the waterfront several kilometres apart. The terminal number is on your cruise ticket, not the air one — check it before you leave the hotel, because a taxi driver will take you where you ask, not where your ship happens to be.

Barcelona and Valencia are reachable direct; the Balearics more often with a change. We check the flight schedule for your specific dates, because it shifts from season to season.

Check-in closes two to three hours before departure, and being at the port well ahead of that limit is the safe reading of it. The five-hour figure belongs only to a transfer arranged by the cruise line and has nothing to do with the port itself.

PortWhat it offers
BarcelonaThe main embarkation port of the western basin. The airport is close to the terminal.
ValenciaA shorter run in from the airport than Barcelona. A narrower choice of dates.
Palma de MallorcaAlmost always a call, not a start. City, cathedral and port in one place.
IbizaA call. The old harbour and the beaches sit on opposite sides of the island.

The Balearics: what you actually see

The islands lie close together, so the ship covers the distances overnight and is in port from the morning. Palma and Ibiza each get a full day, Menorca usually less.

Palma is a city in its own right: the cathedral, the old town and the port all in one place, with no transfer needed. Ibiza splits in two — the old harbour and the beaches on the far side of the island, with a journey between them.

A shore excursion in each port is paid separately. In the Balearics it pays more often than elsewhere to explore on your own: the distances are short and public transport works.

Menorca is the quietest of the three and turns up in itineraries least often. If it is the point of the trip, filter by port rather than by region — otherwise you will drown in sailings that stop at Palma and Ibiza and go no further.

Island-only itineraries are shorter, three to five nights, and cheaper for it. That makes a sensible first cruise if you do not yet know whether the sea suits you.

When to sail from Spain

The Balearic season runs from May to October and is shorter than the Italian one. Outside it the ships move to mainland routes or leave the western basin altogether.

May, June and September give warm water without the August crowds, and fares are markedly lower. In July and August several ships stand in Palma at once and the old town gets tight.

In winter the Barcelona offer does not disappear but changes character: what remains are longer runs towards the Canaries and Morocco, and that is a different kind of holiday from a week around the Balearics.

Winter runs from Barcelona to the Canaries are longer, usually ten nights and upwards, with several sea days in a row. That suits some and not others — if you like going ashore every day, take a shorter loop in season rather than a winter crossing.
