Frequently asked questions

Yes. Many people drive to the Danube ports in their own car. From southern Poland, Passau or Vienna can be reached within a single day.

The drive to the Rhine and the Moselle is longer but still feasible. For Paris and Lyon, a flight is usually the more convenient solution.

Quay parking may be paid and is not always directly at the berth. We check the available options for the specific cruise.

Choose the Danube if capitals and a relatively short journey matter to you: Passau, Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest.

The Rhine and the Moselle are a better choice for lovers of castles, vineyards and smaller, atmospheric towns.

The Seine combines Paris with Normandy, while the Rhône runs through Provence and usually offers the warmest climate.

It is best to start from what you want to see. We will match the right river to that, not the other way round.

Above all in the scale and rhythm of the journey. A river ship usually carries a hundred and something guests, moors close to the town centre and barely rocks at all.

In exchange, it does not offer the extensive infrastructure typical of large ocean ships: multiple pools, big shows or a wide choice of restaurants.

A river cruise is more intimate, but the cost of a single night can be higher than on a large ocean ship.

The fare always covers the cabin, full board and the voyage between the towns.

The remaining services depend on the operator. Some include drinks with meals, others shore excursions, and a few both.

It is one of the biggest differences from ocean cruising. That is why, with river cruises, it is not worth comparing brochure prices alone, because a cheaper offer does not always mean a lower cost for the whole trip.

The operator may change the cruise programme. Part of the route is then sometimes covered by coach, or passengers transfer to a second ship beyond the problematic stretch.

The cruise still goes ahead, but its course may differ from the brochure.

The risk rises during an extremely dry summer and after heavy rainfall. Before the purchase, we check how the specific operator handles such situations.

From the end of November to the end of December, most often on the Danube and the Rhine.

These are usually short cruises of a few nights. Their great advantage is mooring in the town centre, which puts the markets often just a few minutes' walk from the ship.

The best dates sell early, so it is worth booking them in advance.

Prices on the site are shown in zloty, while the contract is concluded in euros or US dollars. Payment by transfer can be made in euros or in zloty.

It is worth remembering that the brochure price most often applies to one person sharing a double cabin. If you travel alone, the operator adds a charge for single use of the cabin. On river cruises this supplement can be high, because the number of cabins is limited.

We give the exact price before booking.

The organiser is Biznes i Turystyka Piotr Skupiewski — a Polish company entered in the CEOTiPUT register, paying contributions to the TFG and TFP funds, and holding insurance guarantee UNIQA no. 3800003856, valid until 04.05.2027.

The telephone is answered in Polish between 9:00 and 18:00. We stay in touch after the cruise ends as well.

The embarkation points are Cologne, Düsseldorf and Basel. The classic route runs through Koblenz, Rüdesheim and Strasbourg, and sailings from the Dutch side start in Amsterdam.

It does, which is why the question is worth settling before booking. The classic arrangement runs from Amsterdam down to Basel, so you step ashore several hundred kilometres from wherever the car was left.

Vineyards running down to the water, towers above the bends, and the Lorelei rock where the channel is at its narrowest. The ship takes that fragment slowly, so it is part of the programme rather than scenery passed on the way.

German is the main language, because A-ROSA is a German operator. The crew speak English and information on board is duplicated.

Six of them do so as a matter of course: AmaWaterways, Avalon Waterways, Viking, Uniworld, Scenic, Emerald. CroisiEurope works bilingually, French alongside English.

The usual length is 7 nights. The schedules also hold shorter sailings of 4–5 nights and longer ones of 10–14 nights, usually combined with a neighbouring stretch of river.

The extent differs between operators and between fares, and most often concerns drinks with meals, shore excursions and transfers. The terms depend on the fare and the route, and current rules are given at booking and checked before the deposit.

The currency of the contract is either the euro or the US dollar, and the booking itself decides which. Payment goes by transfer, in euros or in zloty, to the details we set out in the document. With a payment link the settlement runs in zloty only. Prices on the site are shown in zloty at the day’s rate.

The Rhine is above all castles and landscape, while the Danube runs through capital cities. We describe the two rivers separately, and the language on board works the same way on both.

Still have a question?

We'll help you choose a cruise and answer your questions.

People sail the Rhine above all for the view from the deck. Castles above the bank, vineyards and towns that an air holiday rarely reaches go past at walking pace. The stretch on the UNESCO list runs for about 65 kilometres and holds close to 40 castles.

The second matter is logistics, and here they are unusually simple. Cologne and Düsseldorf are served direct from Warsaw and Kraków, and from western Poland the drive is often easier than a connecting flight. The common length is 7 nights, with 4–5 and 10–14 night sailings also in the schedules.

Below we explain the three things passengers ask about most often before booking. How to get there, what language life on board runs in with each operator, and what the fare covers.

Getting there by car and by air

Rhine sailings start and finish in several places, and the classic route links Cologne, Düsseldorf and Basel. Embarkation usually falls in Cologne or Düsseldorf, while Basel more often ends a sailing than begins one. Which of them becomes your starting point follows the schedule you choose rather than the river itself. Koblenz, Rüdesheim and Strasbourg lie on the classic route as ports of call rather than places of embarkation.

The drive to most of them takes a day from Poland, and from the western part of the country it tends to be calmer than an airport with a change.

There are fenced and covered car parks by the terminals, and some travellers leave the car in a city car park instead. We do not quote rates, because they change more often than this page does. Current parking arrangements are given at the time of booking, for the specific date.

By air the arrival airports are Cologne and Düsseldorf. Both have direct flights from Warsaw and Kraków, and the airport is close enough to the quay for the whole transfer to fit inside one day.

If the sailing starts on the Dutch side, the starting point is Amsterdam. That is a separate itinerary rather than another way to the same quay, so the flight is chosen to match the schedule and not the river.

Start and finish pointsWhat to know
CologneA city on the Rhine with its own airport and cruise quay.
DüsseldorfThe second airport for this route, direct from Warsaw and Kraków.
BaselThe southern end of the classic itinerary, usually where the sailing finishes.

Language on board by operator

This matters more on a river than at sea. The ships carry between 120 and 190 passengers, so the language of the evening programme and the announcements is audible across the whole deck rather than in one part of it.

A-ROSA is a German operator and German is the main language on board. The crew speak English and information is duplicated, so travellers without German are not left without service. It is worth knowing this before booking rather than after boarding.

CroisiEurope runs its sailings in French and in English. AmaWaterways, Avalon Waterways, Viking, Uniworld, Scenic and Emerald work in English, and with them the question of following the programme comes up less often.

Choosing an operator by language is a decision worth taking at the start. We recommend telling us about it in the first conversation, because it narrows the list of sailings faster than the date does.

What the fare covers

River sailings come from a different tradition than sea cruises. The fare usually holds more, because the ship is smaller and fewer things work as a separate service. The extent still differs between operators, and between fares from the same operator.

The differences most often concern drinks with meals, shore excursions and transfers. Those are conditions of the fare rather than a feature of the river, which is why we do not copy them onto this page. The terms depend on the fare and on the route.

Current rules are given at the time of booking, for the specific date and the specific operator. We will check the extent for you before the deposit, because this is the part where two similar packages are easiest to confuse.

On the Rhine we work with A-ROSA, CroisiEurope, Viking, AmaWaterways, Avalon Waterways, Uniworld, Scenic and Emerald. The season usually runs from April to October, with Christmas cruises standing apart from it.

Who sells this and who is responsible

The organiser is Piotr Skupiewski, trading as Biznes i Turystyka Piotr Skupiewski, with its registered office at ul. Łukowa 41, 32-823 Szczepanów, Poland. NIP: 869-114-83-81, REGON: 850455159.

The organiser is entered in the Central Register of Tour Operators and Entrepreneurs Facilitating the Purchase of Linked Travel Arrangements (CEOTiPUNPUT). It holds an insurance guarantee, UNIQA nr 3800003856, valid from 5 May 2026 to 4 May 2027. The sum guaranteed is PLN 379,404.00.

The contract is concluded in euros or US dollars, depending on the booking. Payment can be made by transfer in euros or in zloty. Payments made through the payment link are settled in zloty. We do not offer instalment payments.

The contract is with us, not with a foreign intermediary.

At Center Cruises we answer the telephone in Polish between 9:00–18:00 on +48 576 977 555. We do not vanish once you have paid: a cabin change, a question about paperwork or a problem during the sailing is still ours to handle.
